The COMMUNITY Table: Wine Tasting

February 28, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0

$100

Join us from your living room for a special wine-tasting event benefiting our Spring food drive, which aims to provide relief from food insecurity in Jersey City.

Niche vintners Iconic Wines will conduct a private virtual tour of their Sonoma, California winery before a sommelier leads you through a sampling of their wines—some of which have been sought after by the likes of Eleven Madison Park, Daniel, Oceana, Blue Hill, and Tribeca Grill. These won’t be found at your local merchant.

Purchase a ticket below to secure your bottles for the tasting. They will be shipped to you before the event.

The cause:

Roughly 73,000 people in Hudson County, NJ struggled with food insecurity in 2018

– That number was projected to have increased by nearly 50% between 2018 and 2020

– Two in every ten of our neighbors are going hungry or facing limited or uncertain access to adequate food

Our goal:

Immediately raise $10,000 to feed 200 food-insecure families in our Jersey City community.

If we surpass our goal, all additional funds will be dedicated to ongoing food distribution projects, future fundraising initiatives, and to promoting nutrition education.

About Iconic Wines:

Born in California but raised in Colorado, Birk O’Halloran attended Cornell University’s Hotel Program, where wine became his subject of study and, soon after, his career of choice. Birk continued his studies at the International Wine Guild before breaking ground (literally) in the wine industry working to build three wines shops for various owners. While completing the final wine shop in Princeton NJ, Birk met the founders of a small import company called Acid Inc. Over the next eight years, Birk helped transform Acid Inc. into a national wine importer and distributor, eventually becoming the company’s domestic brand manager and recruiting brands that have become some of the biggest names in California wine.

Birk was quickly building a network of great mentors and amazing fruit sources in California, which proved important for the founding of Iconic in 2011. After many years splitting his time between production and sales, Birk eventually made Iconic his full-time job.

Birk’s winemaking is a patchwork of philosophies borrowed from all the winemakers he has had the pleasure of working with over the years, including both Californian and European mentors. A proud producer of “Dogma Free” wines, Birk’s commitment is always to a delicious finished product over any single, strict winemaking philosophy.

About our sommelier:

John resides in the Central Delaware Valley American Viticultural Area and holds internationally recognized certifications in wine from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. Prior to starting in hospitality, he served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps from 2009-2013. His unique approach and philosophy on making wine approachable and accessible to everyone.
