Join us for the premiere of Cy Morgans’s Studio Visit.
Step inside the studios of the Monira Foundation’s artists in residence. Learn about their unique processes during these short, intimate conversations with incredible artists as they talk about their ideas and give you special access to the details of their work. Video shot by Ann Hermes opens the door to unseen worlds.
This month features Cy Morgan.
Morgan’s materials are often salvaged, frequently from parking lots and roadsides, and combined with art materials to be stacked, leaned, changed, and combined into sculptures of various sizes, from handheld to monumental. Morgan is interested in using these materials as “expressive tools,” describing them as “not all that different from painting and drawing.” Working from an ever-growing collection, artworks are disassembled, and their fragments recombined, resisting reproduction, exchange, archive, and the notion of permanence.
