On View November 13, 2021 to January 2, 2022
Monira Foundation Presents Longing for Something is an exhibition of 21 artists united by work which contemplate moments of anticipation, yearning, and loss.
Throughout the pandemic everyone experienced some form of aching for something better. Whether that was connection, family, health, safety, love, freedom, and/or divine intervention, we all experienced some form of longing. With the holidays fast approaching and the exhibit on view from November 13 to January 2, 2022, this show gives us the opportunity to confront this complex emotion that may also develop or re-emerge during the holidays.
Established artists such as Dorothea Rockburne and Mel Kendrick exhibit alongside emerging artists such as Burgo Melrose and Delia Pelli-Wallbert. Additionally, the exhibition seamlessly displays textiles, paintings, mixed media, video, clay, and sculpture. With half of the artists immigrating to America, this show demonstrates that longing is a universal feeling. Representing artists from Venezuela, Brazil, France, Canada, Scotland, Australia, Taiwan, and America we have all come together to create a space for everyone to feel safe, heard, and seen. Lastly, the viewer can walk away with their own postcard from a mini art making station addressed to someone they long for.
