Monira Foundation presents Discovering Dan Flavin in collaboration with TESTU Collective.
Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Visible light makes up only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. There is a huge range of em radiation that human eyes cannot see, radiation that fills the air, all the time. Dan Flavin’s light sculptures emit multiple wavelengths of em radiation, these waves emanate from and fill the architectural spaces that enclose them.
Serena Stucke & Dan Tesene of the intermedia art group, Testu Collective, tap into these invisible inaudible worlds through EMF pick up coils. They use a variety of coils on each sculpture, revealing the spatial wave patterns emitted by Dan Flavins works.
This is a presentation of the Discovering public program. Discovering is a monthly program that welcomes the public into AYN Foundation and other long term presentations at Mana Contemporary to further learn and experience the practice of their featured artists: John Chamberlain, Michael Heizer, Rammellzee, Fred Sandback and Andy Warhol, through the scope of other artists and the multiple languages of art.
This program is made possible by a generous grant by the Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
