“Pop Art took the inside and put it outside, took the outside and put it inside,” were the words written by Warhol at the beginning of his memoir with Pat Hackett, POPism: The Warhol Sixties.
January’s virtual tour provided a chance to view the AYN foundation’s collection of Andy Warhol’s original silkscreens through the lens of permanence, taking a look at how Warhol’s artistic approach sought to immortalize fleeting moments and human likenesses. Our upcoming February program will focus on Warhol’s experimentation with the personal and impersonal in his art. We are featuring a call for artist submissions that respond to this theme to be featured in a one-time digital publication distributed online in March.
Inversions of the Inner World invites submissions that rearrange layers of private and public, create tension between inner world and outer facade, play with surface texture and work to simultaneously expose and hide personal qualities of the artist or subject. This is a great opportunity for early-career artists who’d like to gain exposure for new work. Any medium is welcome, including visual art, graphic design, photography, prose, poetry, short films and audio files. We recommend submitting high-resolution formats with standard .jpg, .png, .pdf, and .mp4 extensions. Artists may submit up to three pieces each, all pieces must be their original work. Submissions must include information about the medium, a brief 2-3 line statement about how the work responds to the theme, whether or not the work already exists elsewhere online or in a public gallery, 1-2 lines about the artist’s background, and any social media or website links they’d like to share. The submission window is open from February 18th through March 18th. The publication will be made available online in late March, and will promote featured artists’ work on Monira Foundation’s social media platforms.
Please reach out to meadowskate@outlook.com for any questions about submissions.
