Media Residency

Residences

Program:

The Monira Foundation’s Media Residency is a studio and equipment award offered to New Jersey based artists who explore moving image, time-based media, and emergent technologies. This residency is 9 months long and serves artists who have practices that are experimental outgrowths of visual practices. This includes (but is not limited to) podcasts, photography, video, film, spoken word, music, and community production. Our aim is to support artists on non-traditional visual art paths, the New Jersey Art community, and the Monira Community as they make new work and progress on existing projects.

Community Give Back:

The selected artist will be asked to give back to the community through programming in support of the foundation. This can include film night, performances, talks, workshops or artist gatherings.

Program Overview and Facilities:

Selected Artists will have access to a private studio that is about 600 sq/ft. The space comes equipped with a table, installed sound panels, and the Foundations digital, av, and sound equipment. There is internet access and multiple electrical outlets. There is also a community space that residents are allowed to schedule for programming or project building.

In addition to much-needed physical space, awarded residents will receive visits from artists, curators, critics, and collectors at specific points during their residency. They will also be invited to participate in the artist community onsite through quarterly meetings and gatherings.

A more specific equipment list is available on request.

Special Notes:

Artists who are accepted into the program must be prepared to actively use the space. This program is currently by invitation only, but will become an open call in 2022. If you have questions email Anne Muntges anne@monirafoundation.org
