Join us for the opening of Artist Alina Nazmeeva and the work The Mine, The Cloud & The Dump.
Alina Nazmeeva will present work in progress—the first prototype of The Mine, The Cloud & The Dump, an interactive “triptych” installation. The project draws on the conventions of colonial Vanitas painting to confront the material underbelly of contemporary computation, folding together job simulator games and the lush visual language of still life into an uncanny assemblage that both seduces and indicts.
The triptych returns viewers to the “desktop”—both physical and digital—as a cramped, overclocked crawlspace where the planetary costs of digital life quietly accumulate. Each panel corresponds to a stage in the global lifecycle of technology: The Mine (extraction), The Cloud (consumption), and The Dump (discard).
