Peter Hoffmeister: Studio Visit

Take a look at the studio of Peter Hoffmeister at the Monira Foundation!

Hoffmeister is an artist whose installations, sculptures, and prints confront systems of power in the United States. His work often draws on historical events, places, and documents as a way to ground contemporary issues, while questioning cultural narratives that lean on myths of an “authentic past.”

Many of Hoffmeister’s projects are site-responsive, shaped by the history and architecture of a location, creating interruptions in the flow of space. His ongoing series Quality Control uses hollow ceramic bricks made from clay he harvests at the sites of former brickworks. These cast and fired bricks become building blocks for temporary, site-specific structures, held together with mason line, embedding layers of labor, history, and material transformation into each work.
