Counter-Archiving through Altered Books
– Rebellion, Reclamation, and Re-Imagining the Future
Exhibition and Event: February 4, 3 – 5 PM
Monira Foundation and Mana Contemporary’s running exhibition Open Book (Altered) is both a love letter to and an interrogation of knowledge: the artists on display collapse temporality, challenge memory, and excise the past. Through varying degrees of alteration— from drawing to burning– they question civil responsibility and the existence of latent narratives in their found objects.
Participating Artists: Sam Colt, Kate Dodd, David Friedman, Jaz Graf, Valerie Huhn, Raymond E. Mingst, and Danielle Scott.
On February 4th from 3-5pm, we invite you to hear these artists discuss the ways in which books are twisted, distilled, and revitalized. History cannot be changed, but these interventions in literary artifacts are provocative acts of care and catharsis.
